I saw this reality show, Buried Life, posting a while ago. Although I found it slightly obnoxious, I found myself inspired never the less. When I left off, it appeared there was no way they were going to get to play basketball with the President. Yep, I do mean the President of the United States. A lofty goal with little or no real significance, however, with the potential media coverage and television exposure, it would have seemed to be great PR for the Prez with the younger set. I thought maybe because of that reason alone they might get a shot. They didn't. It really seemed to start to get hopeless and they even began to bicker a bit. It could've been a real breakdown. But they persisted and, eventually, with focus and dedication, they were able to knock off one more thing from their bucket list. Thanks, Tim Ferris, for keepin tabs on that! (I always love to check in with the infamous Tim Ferris feed - and just tripped upon this inspiration serendipitously :)

I love sleep. I love to just curl up in my blankets and wrap the pillows around me and just lay in a cloud of blanket pillow marshmallow wonderfulness. Not only does it feel great, it is amazing recovery. So if your focus is, healthy eating and working out, making sure you get the right amount of rest is super important also. I think I was over doing it a little recently: Waking up at 430am, hitting the hay past ten; then there's hot yoga 9X per week, running twice per week and riding twice a week. Oh yea, then there's life. That's right! It's that time again!!! Run club 6-7pm & Yoga for Athletes - every Tuesday 7-830pm!! @Sense of Samadhi. In Yorkville !!!
It's funny listening to people talk about weightloss after a few sunny days. It starts to sink in that summer and bathing suit season is upon us and the layer of winter fat needs to come off.
The first thing I notice is people jump on a trend - healthy foods get eliminated with the unhealthy food and binge eating cycle begins. Avocado, for example, a food naturally high in fats become a no no. But avocado is high is good fats and can actually help you lose weight and stay healthy. Almost any and all whole foods will do that for you - the more closely you adhere to an unprocessed food diet, the better you will look and feel and you will probably lose weight also - or maintain a healthy weight. Wht is a healthy weight anyway? Where did we come up with this idea of thinness and how it goes hand in hand with beauty? There is of course a lengthy psychological and anthropological answer that you can pretend I inserted here because I'm going to skip that and go straight to the idea that if you are confident in who you are, you are beautiful. Happy people are attractive. Hands down. I'm going to leave it at that. I'm not even going to say a word about Botox or collagen or liposuction - because heck, even plastic surgery disaster survivors are beautiful when they are happy too. That said how does one find this elusive creature called "happy"? Moment by honest ever lovin moment I suppose --- you have to choose it. Like Wayne Dyer says, you have to manifest it - affirm your positive ideas over and over again choosing to be confident in yourself and happy and excited about the world around you. Not so excited all the time? Manifest it - affirm it. Imagine the perfect world and be that person. So what does that have to do with weightloss? A simple recipe for weightloss is this : 1. Eat whole foods that are not very processed 2. Limit alcohol and coffee consumption 3. Exercise - and, if possible, exercise outdoors- as often as possible That's about it. Are you holding that perfect vision in your mind? Your ideal self? Are you moving your body in alignment with those thoughts - that's the important part.... Side note on the topic of exercise - I want point out, it can be fun... You don't have to make it a chore every time ... Maybe some of the time, but not every time. So for example, plan three hour or so long "workouts" per week. Then do things like garden, play with your kids or walk around the neighborhood ... Fun stuff ... Try new things too! Never played baseball before? No problem, pick up a bat and ball and head the the park. You'd be surprised how good you'll feel just doing these few simple things. I love the ride home from Yorkville every week. Seeing the farmland is very grounding to me. I imagine one day this will be an entirely different landscape. The only thing that is constant is change they say. And isn't that true? I don't always like change. I like settling into the comfort of the expectations I can rely on to be there. Familiar recipes, people, places associated with memories. And often when things change I might say, "aw that's too bad."
Sometimes I am a catalyst for change. Other times I welcome change. Some metaphysical types like to believe there is a current of energy out there that you can tap into - that constant - ever changing. This is flow. More later on this maybe - the time for change is upon me at this moment - ! Time for me to climb some hills. Namaste. I am a mean person - I might as well just come out and admit it. Well, I do have my triggers - for example, even though my 81 year old mother walks slower than a turtle, she'll come knockin on the door as soon as you're in the bathroom. Even when she was no where in sight or even on another floor of the house. You close the bathroom door and- BAM - like magic she's there a knockin.
I tend to swear a lot. I couldn't tell you how thrilled I was when I saw on various social media sites indications that people who swore were more honest. I always considered myself quite honest and direct. Sometimes this also corresponds perhaps to the perception of meanness - but to be honest, when I feel like I'm just being mean, there is really little or no truth to it at all. Often with the plain perception of meanness, the receiver just doesn't want to hear a truth about their selves - see Only the Lonely with John Candy. And this can include myself - but, again, to be honest : I'd rather know than not know. Ignorance is bliss. So to completely contradict my last statement, I will say that because so much crap has happened in my periphery recently, I have decided sometimes I just don't want to know. Knowing hurts - and who wants to hurt? Your best friend talks about you behind your back? Your spouse cheats on you? Your teenage kid's on drugs or has taken a college aged boy friend? Life is so much easier to just not know. After all, we are all on our unique paths, aren't we? It's none of our business - or is it? One may easily question the overlapping circles of the Venn diagram and wish their peas would stop touching their mashed potatoes. All that said, I have been observing nice people lately. I have watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind eighteen times to try to ease my pain of knowing by trying to take comfort in the idea of forgetting- and taking special note of the word "nice" in the beginning of the film. I have noticed the clear presence of this around me who radiate this thing called "peaceful". They do not let negativity cling to their soul - they are not even aware of it. But then, as if being a perfect paradox, they fully know. They seem to have chosen to let it go or maybe not even enter their realm as something called 'negative' even if it is or appears to be. Moment by moment, they are in their situation. This is not to be mistaken with optimism- a whole other animal for a separate cathartic exercise altogether. See Candide by Voltaire. How does one achieve this? Being a fan of the old Nike slogan, you just do it. Seems simple enough... I have been reading Penelope Trunk's blog on and off since a friend of mine recommended an article to me regarding yoga. I enjoyed her bold and direct way of communicating very much. I couldn't help but think how wonderful the world would be if everyone were just as clear and direct as she is. Don't get me wrong, I don't always agree with her POV, but her honesty is clear and she does have humility - I can see where she sites her mistakes and offers up change! I love that. And as I had been looking to her as an inspiration of clarity, she has been looking to another blogger, The Pioneer Woman, for softness and softening her own edges. Turns out, even those WE look to for inspiration looks towards others and on and on and on! I recently discovered she has aspergers from the TV demo reel she was working on. Turns out they won't have their own reality show - she seems okay with that and I agree. To be turned down for a reality show means you're probably doing a lot of things RIGHT in your household and with your children. Yes, they were deemed 'too normal'. That's it for now . Maybe youre wondering How to Be Nicer Person because I don't really offer up any lists on How To do that, so here goes: 1. Love and be loving. 2. Respect other people's boundaries and know your boundaries. 3. Don't hang on to negativity or things outside of your control by worrying about them. 4. When a trigger for your meanness occurs, do not react. Refer to point 1. Then love yourself for being overcoming your trigger. *sigh of relief and smile at yourself •:) Ok - now that's really it for now - I can only hope my catharsis helped at least one person out there who also might be trying to be a nicer person <3 If you want to check out Penelope's blog or find links to The Pioneer Woman, go to http://blog.penelopetrunk.com/2013/04/30/the-demo-reel-for-my-reality-tv-show-and-how-to-turn-a-failure-into-a-success/ |
